Good food. Only complaint is they no longer give a Veteran's discount. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. It's not the $$ but it's more of a matter of respect kinda thing.
I can't believe I didn't know this place existed! Its just a pizza shop. But it's 9:30 at night on a Thursday, and every table is occupied. Whole families are here. The Phillies are on. I'm sure that has something to do with the full house. It's clean. But best of all, the pizza is great! Like boardwalk pizza. While eating, there is a constant stream of people coming in to order take out. I will definitely be buying here again.
I've been going here for the past 35 years and they have Amazing food, a great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly.
Of all the pizzeria's we have tried, Pizza Star is out go to! From the large antipasto salad, buffalo wings, calzones and Stromboli, there is not one thing we haven't enjoyed. The staff behind the counter to the kitchen staff have always provided exceptional service. If you are looking for your local pizza joint, this is it.
Pizza Star is such an interesting spot to discuss when you talk pizza. There are tons of people who swear by it and a lot who say its an out of date place with crappy pizza. I actually enjoyed the throwback look. Wood paneling, old faded pictures of the old country hanging on the walls, orange booths and a manual menu board. They've kept it well maintained on the inside even with the menu board. I know progress happens and things change, but to take my kid to a place like this was fun. The menu was simple and not overwhelming which was great! Stick to the basics and make it well. My son and I sat at a table and watched some Wheel of Fortune on their TV while we waited for our large well done plain pizza. The guys behind the counter were friendly and speaking Italian. My kind of folks! Once our pie came out, I found it to be pretty darn good. I liked the sweetness of the cheese although I would have preferred more sauce. The crust could have been a bit crispier/charred and was on the thick/doughy side. I thought the experience was good here. Friendly staff, solid above average pizza, simple menu and fair prices. I can see why they have a very loyal following.

Can only speak for the pizza, as have been a literal lifelong Amato's patron, and needed to use a $50 gift certificate here. Staff is always polite/friendly, food is on time, hot, and consistent product. Pizza Star is worth a try, and has some loyal, local customers.
